Haiti's history and politics
Haiti has a long background that many people might not know much about, starting all the way back to 1492.

A lot of events took place in the next ten years. In 1503, the first Africans were brought over seas and would later become part of the African Slave Trade. In 1504, the last leader of the Taino people was executed by the Spanish governor of Haiti. The Spanish ruled over the territory from 1492 to 1697.
In 1697, after the nine year war, the Spanish gave in and the French were the new conquer of Haiti and renamed it Saint-Domingue. The French ruled over the colony until 1804 when The Haitians finally got their indolence. During this time before 1804 tensions began to grow within the colony. In 1749 the city Port-au-Prince and later known as the capital of Haiti was founded by Charles Burnier. Port-au-Prince was one of the many pushes the people of Saint-Domingue needed to build up courage to fight. The most known rebellion in Haiti's history began in 1791, and became known as Haitian Revolution. This was lead by former slaves and their decedents who had enough and were ready to fight for what is theirs. In the end it was very successful and lead to a large massacre of the French people. Once The territory had gain its indolence its rightful name of Haiti was secured.
After 1804 big events occurred and would help lead the rest of the Caribbean in Haitis path. Haiti was the First Nation in the Caribbean to achieve independence, this was huge for the slaves and especially the native Taino people. Then Haiti became one of the first democracy to be created in the Western Hemisphere and was later followed by other nations in the Caribbean.
